Complementary activities/ Other activities

Composting and organic orchard:

In the line marked with the construction of the greenhouse from recycled materials, we think that it might be interesting to complement it with an ecological garden.

Inside the same attached space to the Adults' Center where we locate the greenhouse, we begin to prepare a small garden where our principal premise is the same of the whole project: each of the activities that we realize are never an end in its, but always a way with which to try to approach the last end that must preside over the activities in a Penitentiary Center, which is the Social. For it, the values of individual work and work group, cooperation, development of social skills, tolerance or discipline of work are the essential aspects that have looked for all our activities through the project.

In addition, after the agreement signed with SOGAMA, Environment Galician Company , we receive several composters and a shredder with what we began a really interesting activity and that has had a great reception between our pupils and in the rest of inmates of the Center: the composting. It consists of taking advantage of organic remains of garbage to create additives with which we will grow our garden.

Nowadays, 3 composters are working in our garden to full performance, another composter in the garden of the Penitentiary Center, one more in the medical building and other one in the building of Respect, for that reason we can verify that, this activity began in the School and it is spreading to other areas of the prison.

Definitively, inside the framework of our Grundtvig project :" Desarrollo sostenible para todos " we have tried to contribute with our granite of sand in flavor of  the development of activities and acquisition of values that they promote to the pupils of our Adults' Center and, for extension, to the boarders of Monterroso's Penitentiary, the respect and environmental care, beside demonstrating that always we can go farther in aspects as important as the recycling and the use of the residues, of a rational and practical way, besides educationally and of personal enrichment.
