Institutional activities

       As part of the collaboration between Sogama and our center, in Cerceda Environmental Complex, the president of Sogama Javier Dominguez Lino has received a delegation led by Antonio Rivera Lopez, director of the Prison Monterroso and Pedro Cantero, director of Monterroso EPAPU center and other prominent members of the two institutions.

       It was agreed at the meeting that Sogama continues to support our institution in environmental education of inmates. 

Finally we invited Don Javier Dominguez to the closing ceremony of the school year in Monterroso.

Actividades institucionales

       En el marco de la colaboración entre Sogama y nuestro centro y en el complejo medioambiental de Cerceda, el presidente de Sogama  Don Javier Domínguez Lino ha recibido una delegación de nuestro centro encabezada por  Don Antonio Rivera López, director del Centro Penitenciario de Monterroso y Don Pedro Cantero, director del centro E.P.A.P.U Monterroso además de destacados miembros de las dos instituciones. 

       Así se acordó en la reunión que Sogama sigue apoyando a la institución en la formación ambiental de los reclusos.

Al final se ha invitado a Don Javier Domínguez al acto de clausura del curso escolar en Monterroso.

     

Complementary activities/ Other activities

Composting and organic orchard:

In the line marked with the construction of the greenhouse from recycled materials, we think that it might be interesting to complement it with an ecological garden.

Inside the same attached space to the Adults' Center where we locate the greenhouse, we begin to prepare a small garden where our principal premise is the same of the whole project: each of the activities that we realize are never an end in its, but always a way with which to try to approach the last end that must preside over the activities in a Penitentiary Center, which is the Social. For it, the values of individual work and work group, cooperation, development of social skills, tolerance or discipline of work are the essential aspects that have looked for all our activities through the project.

In addition, after the agreement signed with SOGAMA, Environment Galician Company , we receive several composters and a shredder with what we began a really interesting activity and that has had a great reception between our pupils and in the rest of inmates of the Center: the composting. It consists of taking advantage of organic remains of garbage to create additives with which we will grow our garden.

Nowadays, 3 composters are working in our garden to full performance, another composter in the garden of the Penitentiary Center, one more in the medical building and other one in the building of Respect, for that reason we can verify that, this activity began in the School and it is spreading to other areas of the prison.

Definitively, inside the framework of our Grundtvig project :" Desarrollo sostenible para todos " we have tried to contribute with our granite of sand in flavor of  the development of activities and acquisition of values that they promote to the pupils of our Adults' Center and, for extension, to the boarders of Monterroso's Penitentiary, the respect and environmental care, beside demonstrating that always we can go farther in aspects as important as the recycling and the use of the residues, of a rational and practical way, besides educationally and of personal enrichment.

Actividades complementarias

Compostaje y huerto ecológico:

En la línea marcada con la construcción del invernadero a partir de materiales reciclados, consideramos que podría ser interesante complementarla con un huerto ecológico.

Dentro del mismo espacio anexo al Centro de Adultos donde ubicamos el invernadero, comenzamos a preparar un pequeño huerto donde nuestra premisa principal es la misma de todo el proyecto: cada una de las actividades que realizamos nunca son un fin en sí mismo, sino siempre un medio con el que intentar acercarnos al fin último que debe presidir las actividades en un Centro Penitenciario, que es la Reinserción Social. Por ello, los valores de trabajo individual y de grupo, cooperación, desarrollo de habilidades sociales, tolerancia o disciplina de trabajo son los aspectos esenciales que han buscado todas nuestras actividades del proyecto.

Además, a raíz del convenio firmado con SOGAMA, Sociedad Galega del Medio Ambiente, recibimos varios compostadores y una biotrituradora con lo que comenzamos, también, una actividad realmente interesante y que ha tenido una gran acogida entre nuestros alumnos y en el resto de internos del Centro: el compostaje. Compostaje que, en definitiva, consiste en aprovechar restos orgánicos de deshecho para crear abono con el que abonaremos nuestro huerto.

En la actualidad, están funcionando 3 compostadores en nuestro huerto a pleno rendimiento, otro compostador en el huerto del Centro Penitenciario, uno más en el módulo de enfermería y otro en el módulo de Respeto, por lo que podemos comprobar como esta actividad comenzada en la Escuela se está extendiendo a otros departamentos de la prisión.

En definitiva, dentro del marco de nuestro proyecto Grundtvig “Desarrollo sostenible para todos” hemos intentado aportar nuestro granito de arena en el desarrollo de actividades y adquisición de valores que fomenten a los alumnos de nuestro Centro de Adultos y, por extensión, a los internos del Centro Penitenciario de Monterroso, el respeto y cuidado del Medio Ambiente, además de demostrar que siempre podemos ir más allá en aspectos tan importantes como el reciclaje y el uso de los residuos de un modo racional y práctico, además de educativo y de enriquecimiento personal.

Phase 9: Preparation and placement of the doors of the greenhouse

First, we prepare the frames of the doors with materials recycled as rods, metallic sticks of broom or remains of the workshop of metallurgy, to shape his structure.

Also with recycled materials, we make the doors filling with bottles in horizontal sense.

We cover with recycled plastic from coverlets of clothes, since we did in the walls of the greenhouse and place them in his place.

Fase 9: Preparación y colocación de las puertas del invernadero

En primer lugar, preparamos los marcos de las puertas con materiales reciclados como varillas, palos metálicos de escoba o restos del taller de metálica, para conformar su estructura.

También con materiales reciclados, ajustándonos al espacio del marco, confeccionamos las puertas, que iremos rellenando con botellas en sentido horizontal.

Recubrimos con plástico reciclado de cobertores de ropa, como hicimos en las paredes del invernadero y las colocamos en su lugar.

Phase 8 : Closing of the frontal part and back of the greenhouse

So much the frontal as back part of the greenhouse they are divided, for the center, for a metallic vertical strip.

From this division, our closing also will be structured in two differentiated parts: the completely closed one and, other one, in which we will place both doors of access.

The part that will remain closed in its entirety, is realized in two phases:

- The first phase: First, we elaborate a plastic adapted to his form, which has realized with bags recycled of clothes that they have given us in the Monterroso's clothes shop "Agarimo", for whom we want to be grateful for his interest and inconveniences to prepare ourselves and to select all these bags.

After measuring the corresponding proportions, we are joining the bags to obtaining the form and size wished.

With plastic prepared we move to the greenhouse.

First, we are opening a structure of thread that will be the one that will use us as guide for the placement of the surface of plastic.

With the unfolded threads, we are placing and fixing the plastic we had elaborated before.

Using a rope, we are fixing the cover of plastic to the wings of the greenhouse up to completing and to close the whole surface.

        - Second phase: After the placement of the plastic, we will cover the whole space with bottles, in a similar way to since we have realized for the coverage, though with two light differences, since his disposition will be horizontally and it will be finished off by the low part of the bottles in both ends them to be able to fit, this way, better to the arch of the structure.

First, the different rows of bottles are prepared since we it have come realizing, though they will not be all of the same length and number of them for the curvature of the arch.

Later, they are placing to every end fixing with the rope in the wings, always bearing in mind that in the last bottle, which is placed in the arch, will go in the opposite direction and will stand out, in every row, depending on the space necessary to adapt to the hollow.

We will fix also with rope in the center of the row and will repeat the operation with each of the following rows of bottles, up to covering completely the part of the altar frontal of the greenhouse.

We place some row of color, as we did in the cover, to give him a decorative touch.

And, finally, we complete the structure closing completely the frontal and the back parts of the greenhouse.
